SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE

Dance explosion beckons as Mzansi’s top 16 are announced

SABC 1 Mzansi Fo Sho So You Think You Can Dance search for the nation’s favourite dancer steps up a gear on August 28, when the top 16 finalists are revealed during the first live show of this ‘dancertainment’ spectacle.

Hosted by the spunky Sade Giliberti, the second season of So You Think You Can Dance is further spiced up by returning judges Didi Moses, David Matamela and head judge Harold van Buuren, with special guest artists added to the mix.

The finalists now start converging on the SABC studios in Jozi to embark on the journey of their lives – live on TV. From 18h00 to 19h30 on SABC 1 on August 28, audiences can start selecting their favourites as the dancers start vying for the R250,000 prize and the honour of being named Mzansi’s favourite dancer.

Following a series of tough auditions held throughout South Africa, the field has been narrowed down to the top 16 dancers. This year’s group ranges in age from 18 to 27, with the majority hailing from Gauteng and three apiece from KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.

The KZN finalists are Bonwa Mbontsi (21) from Pietermaritzburg (contemporary dance, particularly ballet). From Durban are Kai Pretorius (19 - ballet and contemporary) and Snenhlanhla Mbatha (18 - old-school hip-hop).

The first results show on September 1 at 19h00 will not be an elimination show but will feature the contestants’ dancing solos. Each dancer will also be profiled so audiences can start getting to know their hopes, dreams, backgrounds and what makes them tick.
