Ann Gritten, widow of singer Michael Gritten and mother of actor Michael Gritten (Jnr), died last week after a period of ill-health. Known as Ann Scott in her early life as an actress in Durban when she worked at the now defunct Lyric Theatre, she became connected with her husband through their singing activities.
“She was a pretty, cheerful, happy and compassionate person,” says her friend, actress Vera Clare. “She thoroughly enjoyed the Shakespeare Society of which we were both members but since her husband died 13 months ago, she seemed to have no passion for life.”
The last production Ann Gritten appeared in was a programme for the Shakespeare Society titled Music and Sonnets with Vera Clare and Garth Anderson.
Ann leaves her son Michael, daughter Celia and grandchildren Sarah Skye, Robin and Ryan.
The funeral will take place on October 8 at the Northdene Methodist Church, Vausedale Road, Queensburgh, at 11h00.
