Running on M-Net on DStv on Thursdays at 20h30 is Law & Order: UK, the successful London-based spin-off from American creator Dick Wolf’s hugely acclaimed Law & Order franchise, which has broken countless television records since its inception in 1990. It tells the stories of two separate yet equally important groups: the police, who investigate crime; and the attorneys, who prosecute the offenders.
The cream of British acting talent is brought together in an ensemble cast to star in this series which became an instant hit when the first series was broadcast in 2009. Representing the front line is Bradley Walsh (Torn, Coronation Street) as DS Ronnie Brooks – a real East End cop, and friend and partner to the charismatic DS Matt Devlin, and Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica), whose approach to policing is part force, part seduction. Both report to Harriet Walter (Atonement, The Young Victoria) as DI Natalie Chandler, a working mum who would back them to the end.
On the side of the Law is the Crown Prosecution Service team comprising Freema Agyeman (Dr Who, Torchwood) as hard-working, strong-willed young prosecutor Alesha Phillips; Ben Daniels (The Passion, The State Within) as dedicated Senior Crown Prosecutor James Steel, a man on a mission for justice; and Bill Paterson (Criminal Justice) as their respected boss, CPS director George Castle, a man trying to balance his ideals with the bigger picture.
