The updated October programme for the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s music school once again offers a wide ranging line-up:
October 4: Patrick Bebelaar and Students. Patrick Bebelaar (piano) and students from the Musikhochschule Stuttgart will perform a selection of pieces by Bebelaar, Bräuninger and Süße. Students performing are Christoph Beck (soprano sax and bass clarinet), Thomas Wörle (drums), Sebastian Schuster (bass), and Thomas Bookert (tuba).
October 6, the UKZN African Music Ensemble will perform the Masquerade Dance from the DRC.
October18: Violeta Osorhean and David Snaith. Violeta Osorhean (violin) and David Snaith (viola) will perform a selection of duets for violin and viola through the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods.
October 20: Manor Gardens Ensemble. This vibrant group will present a kaleidoscope of exciting sounds. A large group of young musicians will perform an inspiring programme of African rhythms, tango, jazz and Irish music.
October 25: Avril Kinsey. Composer and classical guitarist Avril Kinsey has performed extensively both locally and internationally, including countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. She will be performing her own compositions, as well as works by Timothy Walker, Stanley Glasser, and Jean Bosco Mwende.
All of the above concerts take place in Howard College Theatre.
The UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will a lunch-hour concert on October 11 in which Dr. Mageshen Naidoo will conducted the UKZN Big Band in perform works by South African and International composers and arrangers. They will share the stage with the close harmony jazz vocal group, UKZN Voices directed by Debbie Mari, who will perform a set of vocal jazz standards.
OSCA Opera Scenes will take place at Jubilee Hall (OSCA) in Princess Alice Drive on October 27. Soloists from OSCA and the Choral and Opera Ensembles will perform excerpts from La Traviata by Verdi and La Bohème by Puccini.
