PETER PAN

(Anthony Stonier as Captain Hooker)

Now in its 14th year, Durban’s adult panto team returns with a brand new take on Peter Pan, presented in its highly popular and successful supper theatre format. The old team is back to give audiences a unique take on a classic fairy tale in true “Once upon a time...” tradition... and that’s where the fairy tale becomes an adult panto!

“Yes, boys and girls,” say the organisers, “after many years happily spent sullying the memory of all our best loved fairytales, this year’s festive adult pantomime takes us back in time to the well-loved Neverland ... as opposed to Alwaysland where the global economic crisis, the ash cloud which has prevented your annual skiing trip, and the endless fight with Christmas shoppers in every mall in town, prevent you from having fun.

“Adult panto is not “adult” in the X rated sense of the word,” they continue. “Rather, it is naughty-but-nice festive season froth where everything has a double entendre – if you think it’s rude it’s your filthy mind not ours! Packed with well-known songs, jokes and a plot not difficult to follow, the stage is set for an evening of escapism and delight. But best leave granny babysitting the kids ... unless Granny is a goer!”

This year’s cast is the same as last year’s sellout sensation, Sinderella. Anthony Stonier, whose face and voice are synonymous with adult panto – this is his 14th year - and whose legs have officially been designated a World Heritage Site (they attract three times more visitors than the St Lucia Estuary) plays Captain Hooker, Rowan Bartlett (9th panto!) plays Peter Pan, with the sexy Rikki Hastings as Wendy, Jaz Cassimjee as All The Lost Boys (yes, think how many salaries it saves), Daisy Spencer as Tinkerbell and Thomie Holtzhausen as ....wait for it ..... Mr and Mrs Darling, Nana the Dog, Smee and Tiger Lily, who hails, not from her tepee in the wild west but from Blue Lagoon. They have all landed up in Neverland as they were all social misfits in Alwaysland ...no guessing what Captain Hooker was!!

The adult pantos make for ideal festive fun for the broadminded as well as year-end Christmas party fare and corporate entertainment.
