7TH KZN AFRICAN FILM FESTIVAL

Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre will close 2010 on very high note with the KZN African Film Festival. The fast-growing film festival will be celebrating its seventh year since it was launched in 2003. KZN African festival was once called KwaMashu African film festival. It was then only supported by National Film and Video Foundation and KZN Economic Development.

Both NFVF and DED are still part of the funders since the event as established. The Department of Arts and Culture also came on board after reading about the success stories of the event. DAC then proposed that the event must be a provincial one so that all aspiring film makers from the province would benefit from it. In 2007, it was the called KZN African Film festival. This year the event will be supported by Ethekwini Municipality.

The event has benefited many young and aspiring film makers through the trainings which are part of this event. KZN AFRICAN Film Festival invite experienced local and international film makers and producers to run workshops on different aspects of the film industry. They run workshops on acting for camera, script writing, camera operation, editing and directing a movie.

KZN Film Festival will have well-known actors and producers who will train participants of the various Festival programmes. Keneth Nkosi of Class Act reality show on SABC that aims at discovering acting talent will be doing workshops. Rapulana Seipemo, a professionally trained actor, acted in movies like Tsotsi, White Wedding, Hijack Stories, SABC 1 soapy generation.

Thembi Mtshali of Sgudis Nice fame and Stokvel will also be amongst the experience and successful actress who will be sharing their experience and knowledge in this festival.

Hollywood actress Gabrielle Union will be come to this festival to do training on acting for camera. She is also coming to do a campaign on cancer awareness since she is an ambassador for American artist fighting against cancer.

The opening ceremony of the event will be on December 3. The opening film for this year’s film festival is called Ithemba. Rapulana and Simphiwe Dana are playing major roles in the film. Zulu Boywill perform at the opening ceremony of this event at Ekhaya Multi arts centre KwaMashu. The event will be attended by the people from the business sector and government with the purpose of investing in the film industry.
