BUZZART

The KZNSA is one Durban’s leading visual arts organizations and brings innovative exhibitions and creative products to a diverse audience. Their commitment to supporting local talent is legendary.

Presently on display in the gallery, their annual festive season Buzzart is an outstanding showcase of what’s available from artists, design and craft studios both local and international. The KZNSA is committed to providing affordable, quality, novel and inspiring products many of which benefit community - based income generation projects.

Buzzart incorporates both the KZNSA Shop and Gallery spaces and provides for a delightful shopping experience. An extraordinary range and diversity guarantees a rewarding find for all ages and tastes from the funky, quirky and fun to the more classic, retro, vintage and collectible.

Cutting edge Durban design studio KOOP presents a contemporary Xmas range Lisa loves Design – cut out Birch plywood trees, birds, wreaths and table mats and coasters in luminous reds and crisp apple greens reminiscent of up market Scandinavian design.

The Gallery hosts affordable contemporary visual art, prints, oils on canvas, watercolours and ceramics, of particular note is an outstanding series of Nguni cattle. Over a hundred artists’ blocks (18cm X 18cm wooden panels) especially created for the exhibition by local artists provide a dazzling array of media and subject matter.

Jewellery designer Nicky Savage has created a range of Perspex and wood accessories that is bright, modern and stylish. New jewellery in silver from the students of the Durban Institute of technology is a rare glimpse into what’s up and coming. Contemporary costume jewellery from R10 to highly collectible is in abundance – as is an incredible assortment of decorations and stocking fillers in wire, wood, glittering beads and metals and glass. The award winning Shwe Shwe poppi project creates stuffed textile key rings based on children’s drawings.

Roses and hearts are big news this season and Buzzart has a myriad in stone, glowing warm wood, wire beads and the natural textures of bleached woven cane. Guru Girl are emerging designers who have captured the imagination of the trendy crowd with their designer T-shirts, badges, stickers, cards and bags. Specialist foodstuffs are on offer, homemade pickles, biscuits and small handcrafted Xmas cakes.

The KZNSA Gallery and Shop are adjacent to the Arts café – perfect for that mid-shop cappuccino or meet up with friends for lunch and collective shopping. Altogether Buzzart offers an enjoyable, accessible, affordable, and inspiring festive season experience.

The Gallery is offering the Durban art-loving public an unprecedented opportunity to own an artwork by renowned artists Andrew Verster and Bronwen Findlay. These extraordinary, valuable large-scale works are being raffled. Don’t miss out!

Buzzart runs until January 9. The KZNSA Gallery is situated at 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, in Durban. More information on 031 277 1703, fax 031 201 8051 or cell 082 220 0368 or visit www.kznsagallery.co.za
