DEATH OF RUTH CELE

Ruth Cele, well-known for her role as Mamgobhozi in the popular television drama Hlala Kwabafileyo, died on December 22 after a short illness at the age of 71.

Born in 1939 in Durban, Ruth Cele became one of South Africa’s most well-known television and movie actresses.

In paying tribute, KZN MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Wesiwe Thusi said Cele was “one of the country’s remarkable actresses and inspired a lot of young people who wanted to pursue careers in the acting industry. Her passing on leaves a big void in the arts industry and she will be sorely missed.”
