(Mpendulo Yawa, Loyiso Dlova, Xolani November and Siyabulela Gqola)
uShaka Marine World will be alive with music on February 20 when the Afro-operatic pop sensation the Gugulethu Tenors takes to the Upper Deck. This one-night-only performance will not only launch the foursome’s album, The Gugulethu Tenors, in KZN but show Durbanites just why they shone during the 2010 Soccer World Cup and captured the imagination of dignitaries and superstars such as Oprah Winfrey and Mariah Carey.
The Gugulethu Tenors have been described as “South Africa’s Il Divo”, “Pavarotti’s Children” and “the Diamond of the Township”. Group members Mpendulo Yawa, Siyabulela Gqola, Xolani November and Loyiso Dlova will share their love of opera, African medleys and gospel. Songs will include original compositions O Afrika! and Nyamezela, operatic favourites such as O Sole Mio, Nessun Dorma and Nella Fantasia and contemporary numbers such as The Prayer, Miriam Makeba’s Pata Pata and Gé Korsten’s Liefling.
The Gugulethu Tenors will board the Phantom Ship for one performance on the Upper Deck on February 20 at 18h00. Tickets, R85 (R40 children under 10) booked through Computicket. Meals and refreshments can be directly ordered from the Upper Deck Restaurant menu.
