STAND UP ZULU COMEDY

Stand Up Zulu, which takes place on February 18 in the Playhouse Opera, is poised to be the first large-scale comedy show in KZN to open the new year, and boasts a fully-charged galaxy of well-known comedians and promises to be full of surprises!

Making his way to the Durban audience for the first time in over a year is the SABC 1 TV show So You Think You’re Funny’s nasty judge, Ntosh Madlingozi. He is accompanied by Durban’s prodigal son, the Ntuzuma-born Sya-B aka Siyabonga Radebe who graces television screens through various TV series and adverts. Durban’s No 1 comedians, Felix Hlophe and Celeste Ntuli – who will MC the show – will be holding the fort.

Known for his various TV roles; fresh from co-hosting the last Channel O Music Video Awards and making his way for the first time in three years in the Durban comedy circuit is Thomas Gumede. Adding to the line-up is the comic that’s taking the industry by storm and the Mzansi Channel’s Opening Guy, Skhumba Hlophe, the pride of Tembisa Township.

Ntosh Madlingozi is an entrepreneur and one of South Africa’s ascendant stand-up comedians, Ntosh has a fresh brand of in-your-face, laissez faire humour that has found favour at various venues around Gauteng including Cool Runnings, The Crazy 88 Lounge, Roka, Horror CafĂ©, Devine Lounge, 96 and others. He has featured, to great acclaim, in the last two Blacks Only comedy shows, hosted by David Kau and in just his first year as a professional comedian, he hosted fellow comedian Loyiso Gola’s I am Frank one man show.

He has shared the stage with a diverse array of comics, including Chris Forrest, John Vlismas and Kagiso Lediga. He has hosted and headlined many comedy shows like Blacks Only; Just Because Comedy; Tshwane Comedy Festival; Vodacom Funny Festival; 99% Xhosa Comedy in the Eastern Cape and featured for the first time in the 99% Zulu Comedy in Pietermaritzburg in December 2008. In 2007, he had a stint on radio as The Dysfunctional Cousin on Bad Boy T’s then 12h00 – 15h00 The Family show on Metro FM and in the tradition of great comics, he was subsequently fired for one too many un-PC gags! He’s currently featured in many adverts for both television and radio.

Stand Up Zulu starts promptly at 20h00 on February 18 in the Playhouse Opera. Tickets R120 at Computicket outlets and Shoprite/Checkers and early booking is advised. The event is hosted by Xolani Majozi Entertainment. More information from Xolani Majozi on 083 621 6338.
