The Manor Gallery in Johannesburg is hosting the Fred Rich Private Collection Exhibition which includes the works of former KZN artist Sam Nhlengethwa, who was once seen as one of South Africa's leading resistance artists. He later began to explore other themes such as music - specifically jazz - and the mechanics of everyday living. He received a fine arts diploma from Rorke's Drift Art Centre in Natal in 1978.
The exhibition is devoted mainly to work by Speelman Mahlangu. Paintings by guest artists from the Black Like Us group will also be on show. Fred Rich's extraordinary art collection includes artworks by Speelman Mahlangu, Paul Sekete, Sam Nhlengethwa, Osiah Masekoameng, Nhlanhla Xaba and Nat Mokgosi - all highly regarded artists who have exhibited here and overseas.
The Manor Gallery is situated at Norscot Centre, Penguin Drive at Fourways in Johannesburg and the exhibition runs until March 19. More information on 011 465 7934.
