Flatfoot Dance Company will present its Flatfoot Training Company in six short dance works with six choreographers titled 6 X 6
6 X 6 is the first public performance platform for Flatfoot Dance Company's 2011 training programme. With a specially designed season of six short dance works, Flatfoot Training Company rises to the challenge of performing for the confines of the intimate Square Space Theatre
The six dancers in the professional company have all been tasked with creating a short work to showcase the emerging talents of the trainees. The stalwart Flatfoot Dance Company choreographers - Magesh Ngcobo, Jabu Siphika, Sifiso Khumalo, Nobuhle Khawula, Mlondi Zondi and Thobeka Quvane - have created work that ranges from pure dance to physical theatre, from narrative to multi-media fusions of spoken word, video and dance. The six divergent dance works offer a scintillating evening of contemporary dance that is sure to dazzle audience with their innovation and originality.
This is also the breeding ground for a new generation of up-coming Durban dancers and an opportunity for them to rise to the challenges of a professional performance environment. “Not to be missed!” promises Flatfoot.
6 X 6 has performances on April 19 and 20 at 18h30 in the Square Space Theatre on Howard College Campus (UKZN). Entrance is free of charge!
Flatfoot wishes to thank the UKZN Drama and Performance Studies Programme for giving them a home to work from, as well as the National Arts Council of South Africa and HIVOS for funding to help realise all its dance and dance education and training work.)
