THE NUTCRACKER

(Gediminas Taranda as Clara)

Following their 2009 sell-out season of Carmina Burana, The Imperial Russian Ballet returns to Durban to perform The Nutcracker.

One of the world’s best-loved ballets, The Nutcracker will enchant audiences in Durban for one performance only on July 12. With a score written especially by Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker was first performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in Russia in 1892. It is one of the Imperial Russian Ballet Company’s favourite ballets in an extensive repertoire, largely because they are joined by children from local ballet schools in the various towns and cities they perform in.

Gediminas Taranda, a soloist of the Bolshoi Ballet, has worked closely with the famous dancer, Maija Plisetzkaya, in this innovative production.

The Nutcracker has one performance only on July 12 at 19h00 in the Playhouse Opera. Tickets range from R135 to R225 booked through Computicket.
