JASPAR LEPAK & ROWAN STUART

Performing live at the Phansi Museum on April 21 will be Jaspar Lepak and Rowan Stuart.

Jaspar Lepak is a folk/country songstress from Minnesota whose remarkable gift for melody is only surpassed by her poetry. Joined by her husband, Kale Lepak, on accordion and Bryan Eaton on banjo, this clever nightingale’s soul-stirring, acoustic-guitar-driven musings promises to gain new fans.

Since 2003, Jaspar has been performing for live audiences across the American Midwest, but in 2009, she moved to Durban, South Africa. Now, surrounded by the overwhelming beauty of an African landscape, this American is on a quest to discover new sounds and audiences. Her fifth CD, Send Me Home, was released in March, 2010.

Rowan Stuart describes his music as ‘poetic pop rock’. Critics have described it as ‘a sound in a class of its own - soaring, lyrical vocals underpinned by virtuoso guitar work, creating a sound that is both exciting and moving’. This year marks a shift towards more stripped-down, live solo or duo performances, along with addition of live ‘looping’ technology.

Having written many new songs over the past few months, Rowan has begun to infuse his shows with new material, while still including favourites such as Late Starter, Miles Away and She’s Music, which have all received radio-play across South Africa. His single Late Starter, was a top 10 hit on East Coast Radio’s Top 20 chart. Rowan has released two solo albums: A Thousand Brand New Places in 2008, and Soul In A Suitcase in 2009 / 2010. He will perform with Jared Collison on bass guitar.

The performance will take place at Phansi Museum on April 21 at 19h30. Admission R50. Phansi Museum is situated at 500 Esther Roberts Road. Glenwood. Phone 031 206 2889, fax 086 5 46 2482 or cell 083 450 3270 or email: info@phansi.com or visit www.phansi.com
