The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra will present a free lunch-hour concert at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Howard College Campus on April 8.
The concert forms part of the orchestra’s Education and Development Programme and is an annual collaboration with The Opera Studio and Choral Academy (OSCA) and Music Students and provides a valuable performance opportunity to all students at UKZN.
The orchestra values its relationship with tertiary institutions, in particular the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The belief of exposing music students to an international standard of performance fuels this relationship and has, over the years, produced some of South Africa’s top music talent.
The programme includes I could have danced all night performed by Theresa Mbatha and Rejoice O Judah which will be performed by Ayanda Zwane. Lindiwe Hlengwa and Esewu Nobela will sing Bizet’s Don Jose/Micaela duet and Azola Mabutho will perform Mozart’s Se vuol ballare from The Marriage of Figaro.
This concert is certainly not to be missed, with collaborative performances with students and the orchestra. The KZNPO is also taking the music to people who would generally not attend symphony concerts, so that people can see the orchestra in a different setting.
The concert takes place in the Jubilee Hall (OSCA Auditorium) in Princess Alice Avenue from 12h15 to 13h00 and entrance is free to both the public and UKZN students. More information on 031 369 9438 or log onto www.kznpo.co.za
