KZNPO GALA CONCERT

The KZN Philharmonic’s World Symphony Series Winter Season commences with a Gala Concert on May 19 and runs until June 16 2011. Due to the elections on May 18 at the Durban City Hall, the Gala Concert will take place at the Playhouse Opera. Concerts will return to the Durban City Hall on May 26 to run in this venue for the rest of the season.

Opening the season is London Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Roman Simovic, performing Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2. The programme concludes with the Mazeppa, adapted from Liszt’s Transcendental Etude. Leading the evening’s programme is maestro Omri Hadari who has been conducting in South Africa since 1985.

Subscription bookings and renewals are available via the KZN Philharmonic offices with single ticket and subscription bookings available from Computicket. Subscribers receive a 25% discount on their subscription and a subscription starts from as little as R240, while pensioners enjoy an additional 5% discount. Please note that the concert of 19 May is a non-subscription concert, however subscribers do enjoy preferential rates for this concert as well.

The regular pre-concert talk will take place at 18h15 in the Grand Foyer of the Playhouse for the opening concert. Entry is R30 and includes light refreshments. On May 19, artSMart editor Caroline Smart will interview Roman Simovic before the talk commences.

Patrons have access to safe and subsidised parking which is available at the Royal Hotel and once again,extra security guards have been contracted by the KZN Philharmonic and will be placed in the surrounding areas of the Playhouse and the Durban City Hall for the security and safety of patrons.
