The Centre of Jazz and Popular Music in conjunction with the School of Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal will host a memorial concert and jam session for the late Zim Ngqawana, celebrated jazz musician, alumnus and ex-staff member on May 17.
The concert will feature many local musicians who had a long association with Zim, including staff and students who either studied with him or under his tutelage. The concert will also feature the poetry of long-time friend Ari Sitas, percussionist/storyteller Mama Nomusa and multi-instrumentalist Ndikho Xaba.
The usual entry fee of R30 (R10 students) will apply and proceeds from the door takings will be donated to Zim’s family.
