The Centre of Jazz and Popular Music in conjunction with the School of Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal will host a memorial concert and jam session for the late Zim Ngqawana, celebrated jazz musician, alumnus and ex-staff member on May 17.

The concert will feature many local musicians who had a long association with Zim, including staff and students who either studied with him or under his tutelage. The concert will also feature the poetry of long-time friend Ari Sitas, percussionist/storyteller Mama Nomusa and multi-instrumentalist Ndikho Xaba.

The usual entry fee of R30 (R10 students) will apply and proceeds from the door takings will be donated to Zim’s family.

The concert takes place at the Centre for Jazz & Popular Music, UKZN on May 17 at 17h30 (doors opens at 17h00). Tickets R30 (R10 students R10). More information on 031 260 3385 or email:
