ABBO HALL FOR RED DOOR

On June 14, the Maritzburg Musicians Club will host a top line up of local musicians. First up, there’s St John Haw, a pianist with a great voice and the main act is Abbo Hall with two sets of music - one acoustic, the other electric with his new three-piece band!

In his 50th year, Abbo Hall is focusing on his music more than ever. “I find it easier and more meaningful to play from my own core than to try and do justice to another artist’s expression by doing covers.” he says. His songs bring positive messages of emancipation, upliftment and spiritual awakening. He will be playing two sets incorporating his folk, classical, blues, reggae and rock styles of playing. The first set will include some of his acoustic solo work while in the second half, he turns electric with his new three-piece band ‘Fan the Fire’ which includes the expertise of Dylan Sneedon on drums and Kyle Baker on bass.

St John Haw enjoys writing and playing music with an acoustic sound and feel. He likes improvising and using the full dynamics of a piano or keyboard. He has played at numerous restaurants locally and in Gauteng, and he plays at weddings in KwaZulu-Natal. His influences include Counting Crows, Marc Cohn and The Weepies.

Get along to the Red Door on June 14 at 20h00. The Red Door is in Quarry Road, off Victoria Road, in Pietermaritzburg. Car guards on duty. More information from Roger O’Neill on 083 230 6562.

Early bird tickets for the White Mountain Festival will be available.
