Mzansi Productions brings Divas of Music and Dance to Durban's Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from June 22 for a short five-day season. The production songs by Edith Piaf, Cher, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Shania Twain; Rihanna and others.
"Following the success of Somebody to Love: A Dance Celebration to the Music of Queen, comes Divas of Music and Dance with the same formula of melding popular music with creative choreography with singers, musicians and dancers sharing the stage," says Director of Mzansi Productions, Dirk Badenhorst.
Mzansi Productions is a Johannesburg based professional dance company comprising dancers skilled in both classical ballet and contemporary dance and drawn from the professional dance environment. Mzansi Productions maintains an active performance schedule with the company's own productions, promotional events and corporate entertainment of the highest calibre as well as participating in skills exchange programmes with international ballet and dance companies and schools.
Leading choreographers are invited to choreograph for Mzansi Productions with the specific aim of creating original works.
The choreographer for this production is Mari-Louise Basson. "Divas of Music and Dance has been an exciting and challenging production for me," she says. “I have found great inspiration from the women who have led the way and inspired this show.”
Divas of Music and Dance features ten dancers, musicians DuPreez Strauss and Ilse Louise Herholdt and singers Candida Masoma and Nobuuntu Mpahlaza. Costume design is by David Hutt, and musical director is DuPreez Strauss.
The show runs from June 22 to 26 at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre. Booking at Computicket.
