Shades of Green is the fitting title for Artisan Contemporary Gallery’s exhibition marking the United Nations’ declaration of 2011 as the “International Year of Forests”.
Opening at 17h30 on June 8, Shades of Green has challenged the many participating jewellers to consider the impact of their work on the environment, according to Artisan curator, Sue Greenberg.
“Some have critically looked at their sourcing of metals and materials; others at their manufacturing processes and others still at consumption and ultimate disposal in preparing work for this exhibition”, she said. “Their response ranges from innovative material choices and production techniques to visual messaging in subject matter, design influence or simply the use of the colour ‘green’.”
Running concurrently with this jewellery exhibition is Collaborations. This is an assembly by master print maker, Tim Foulds, of the works of nine internationally-recognised fine artists – namely, Zak Benjamin, Kim Berman, Willem Boshoff, Bronwyn Findlay, Michael Chibogo Khumalo, David Koloane, Dumisani Mabaso, Colbert Mashile and Dikgwele Paul Molete.
Shades of Green and Collaborations runs until July 9. Artisan Contemporary Gallery is situated at 344 Florida Road. More information on 031 312 4364, email: info@artisan.co.za or visit www.artisan.co.za
