Mondays at Seven tomorrow (June 20) sees a programme of stories in 100 words or less.
In celebration of the shortest day of the year, which falls on June 21, Mondays at St. Clements is celebrating National Short Story Day. Following the lead of a UK-wide celebration with the same name, an initiative aimed at promoting fiction in its succinct form, focuses on South African writing that lends itself to this tradition.
Close on 100 submissions have been received for this Short Story Competition which represents 100 stories in 100 words or less! This is clearly an indication of the enthusiasm that has been generated by the concept of a short, short story.
The five top stories (as adjudicated by Kobus Moolman) will be announced and read on June 20. It was the intention to read all the stories on this occasion, but clearly this will not be possible. These will now be spread two Mondays: June 20 and 27. Should any of the authors be present on those dates, they will be invited to read their own stories.
Among the stories to be read are On Guitar Road with Charlie, Axman and the Muse by Rick Andrew, Jacob’s Smile by Pieter Scholtz (Anglo-Platinum award-winning short story) and Import/Export by Andrew Verster.
