UNSUNG HEROES HONOURED

(Steve Fataar)

Unsung heroes were honoured at Durban’s CFAD (Centre for Fine Art Animation and Design) annual Graduation Dinner, Eco-Vogue Fashion Extravaganza and TLTL Awards Ceremony last month.

As has become custom, the tertiary institution acknowledges unsung heroes instrumental in weaving the complex fabric of our community. “For the past seven years, the TLTL - Too Little Too Late - Awards are given to individuals who contribute unselfishly to the community without the recognition they deserve. Most South African artists have highlighted the plight of the struggle for freedom, and through their work people were able to break the silence,” said CFAD founder Dr Nanda Soobben.

This year, the TLTL awardees were hard working Durban musician Steve Fataar, who is a founder member of The Flames; pianist Ndikho Xaba, internationally-acclaimed veteran photographer Ranjith Kally and jazz muso Sam Abrahams.

The Media Award for Art and Media achievement went to two worthy recipients: columnist and writer Devi Rajab and cartoonist John Curtis. This award celebrates local heroes involved in the media.
