Director, producer and scriptwriter Garth Anderson paid tribute to the late actress Vera Clare at her funeral held on July 15, 2011, with these words.
“Vera was my loving and compassionate friend. She gave me friendship and love. She gave me generosity and kindness.
Vera was the most wonderful actress. I had the privilege, the honour and the great joy to work with her only three marvellous times. Firstly, on The Story of an African Farm in which she played the lead role of the author Olive Schreiner. Secondly, on The Importance Of Being Earnest, in which she starred as the funniest most terrifying Lady Bracknell I have ever seen. And for the last time, on the comedy Well I Never, which we had the most great fun together, both in the compilation of the script and in performance.
I so enjoyed watching Vera's performances, both as a comedienne and as a dramatic actress. It was wonderful to read her magnificent newspaper reviews and to watch her winning so many awards.
Thank you for your love, Vera. Thank you for your kindness.
It was a privilege to be your friend.
Dear Vera, may you rest in peace in God, our Beloved Father's Heaven."
Peace be with you always, Vera.
