The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra has announced with great sadness the death of violist, Jabulani Dlamini.
Jabulani Dlamini was born on December 19, 1975, in Soweto, and was the second child of Jeanette Dlamini and Solomon Mfunzani.
He attended Dumezweni Lower Primary and thereafter went to Vula Mazibuko Higher Primary and thereafter on to complete his matric, before going overseas in 1996 to further his education. He studied at Chicago University where he achieved a degree in music, an achievement which his parents and siblings acknowledge as testimony to his hard work and determination.
Jabulani started his career with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban on February 1, 2002. He married his long-time sweetheart, Sindisiwe Dlamini and together they were blessed with a son Sanele (now 6) and a daughter Andile (now 10 months).
He fulfilled his love for music by travelling around the world. His adult life can be best described as one filled with an immense love for and dedication to his family. He was a committed husband, a father with unwavering love for his children, a brother who led by example and a son who brought much pride to his parents.
“In his tenure with this orchestra, we watched Jabu grow as a musician and become the epitome of what it means to be an orchestral musician in our country,” states the notice on the KZNPO website. “He was dedicated to making music a bridge between cultures and a means for young people to express themselves in a positive way. He will be missed by all at the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and we express our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
