New York based saxophonist Salim Washington will perform at the Rainbow Restaurant on August 14.
He last performed at the Rainbow in 2009 whilst in Durban for a teaching stint at the UKZN Music School and a couple of weeks ago, did a couple of impromptu numbers at the venue’s Sunday afternoon jam session.
Washington is in the middle of a six-week working holiday in Southern Africa and has rehearsed a good line-up of musicians from UKZN. The full band and instrumentation is as follows: Salim Washington (tenor sax, flute and oboe); Leon Scharnick (tenor sax and flute); Sakhile Simani (trumpet); Nondumiso Shezi (vocals); Neil Gonsalves (piano); Ildo Nandja (bass guitar) and S'bu Zondi (drums).
