The Catalina Theatre in association with Catalina unLtd will present Saturday Night at the Palace written by Paul Slabolepszy and Bill Flynn. Direction is by Themi Venturas.
This acclaimed play by Paul Slabolepszy is part of the great canon of works created during the apartheid era that took insightful yet highly humorous looks at the characters that peppered South Africa’s landscape. Who can forget the ‘boytjies’ from the Eastern suburbs of Joeys, originally played by Bill Flynn and Paul Slabolepszy himself, that hung out at the many Roadhouses that have since disappeared off the scene.
Directed and designed by Themi Venturas, this work is also a Grade 10 drama setwork in the KZN schools. With a stellar cast led by veteran Bonginkhosi ‘Faca’ Kulu as September, the hapless surrogate manager of Rocco’s All Nite Roadhouse and featuring Clinton Small and Michael Gritten as Vince and Forsie respectively, the students will have a high energy authentic encounter with the work.
Saturday Night at the Palace runs from August 25 to September 11. Bookings on 031 305 6889.
