(DHS vocalists: Sibonelo Dlamini, Sakhile Nene, Blessing Xaba, Brendan-Lee Johnson and Andile Mbadi with Mthokozisi Hlela in front)
Durban High School is to present Singing Swing from August 18 for a short season.
The vision of DHS Drama educator and vocal coach Kirsten Smith, DHS’s latest musical offering, Singing Swing, is a tight, high-energy show, featuring a multi-talented cast of six vocalists.
Accompanied by a six-piece band that has been trained by DHS old boys Alex Smillie (currently a music student at UKZN) and Matthew Barnwell (who will be studying music at Berklee in the USA), Smith’s emphasis on audience rapport and slick choreography means that the show is a complete performance package.
With a playlist that includes modern takes on old favourites such as Come Fly with Me and New York, New York as well as numbers such as Michael BublĂ©’s Everything, the show will also feature guest members of staff and promises to be a polished, modern spin on classic swing.
Singing Swing runs at Seabrooke’s Theatre from August 18 to 20 at 19h30. Tickets R40 booked on 031 277 1500 (during office hours)
