The fifth annual Glenwood Festival offers a busy weekend of music, civic, sports and spiritual events to be held in and around Durban’s thriving suburb of Glenwood on the weekend of September 9 to 11.

The proactive Glenwood Community Forum believes this bustling suburb is “A good place to live, work, educate and raise a family”. To this end, they are hosting a weekend festival with events on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.

The Festival starts on Friday evening with the Glenwood Community Proms. The Durban City Orchestra presents a musical feast for the whole family at Glenwood Prep School. Tickets R50 for all ages on sale at Glenwood Prep School and there will be surprise special guest performances. Bring picnic baskets, camp chairs and blankets.

Apart from sports and fun events, Saturday will feature the Waltons “Back-to-School” Treasure Hunt in Bulwer Park, with over 100 prizes to be claimed. The Artists in Action and Annual Glenwood Chess Challenge is on at Glenwood Prep. The Camelot College Craft Market, also at Glenwood Prep, will once again have lots of interesting craft goods on sale.

Glenwood Prep School will host a Pre-Schools Fun morning, with children’s games, jumping castles , clowns , horse rides and lots more – all for free!

Dave Guselli of East Coast Radio will be the broadcast host for the festival. The School Art Display, on at the Davenport Shopping Centre, will showcase the local schools’ art talent with over 100 pieces on show. There will also be special performances by the Durban Girls’ High School Drummies and Glenwood High School Band.

Saturday night sees the launch of the first Glenwood Street Music Festival. Local bands will perform in the closed off Davenport Road, with a street party in full swing. Entrance is by ticket only (R30 per ticket).

Sunday morning will see The Food Lover’s Market in Bulwer Park, after last year’s great success, with stallholders selling unique types of food, from specialist gourmet meats, olives, breads and lots of special dishes. Sunday is also a “Community Day of Prayer”. An interdenominational service will be held at the Glenwood High School at 18h30.
