Set in the 1960’s, The Ward is directed by iconic thriller and horror master John Carpenter, and is his first feature film in over seven years. The film is currently being screened exclusively at select Ster-Kinekor theatres.
The Ward is a psychological thriller starring Kristen (Amber Heard), a beautiful but troubled runaway who finds herself bruised, drugged and held against her will in a remote ward of a psychiatric hospital. She’s disoriented and has no idea why she was brought there and no memory of her life before being admitted. All she knows is that she isn’t safe.
The other patients in the ward are four equally-disturbed young women, who offer no answers, and Kristen quickly realizes things are not as they seem. The air is heavy with secrets, and at night, when the hospital is dark and foreboding, she hears strange and frightening sounds. A spirit seems to be roaming the halls at night, but when she goes digging for information, she soon becomes convinced that no-one ever leaves the ward alive...
One-by-one the other girls begin to disappear and Kristen must find a way out of this hellish place before she, too, becomes a victim. As she struggles to escape, she will uncover a truth far more dangerous and horrifying than anyone could have imagined.
“I credit Mick Garris, who created Masters of Horror,” revealed Carpenter when asked about his decision to make his first film in nearly a decade. “I wanted a film that needed more creative problem-solving skills to figure out how to tell the story. the Ward was a fun challenge”.
