UKZN School of Music presents the KZN Youth Wind Band in a free lunch-hour concert on September 5.
The KwaZulu-Natal Youth Wind Band (KZNYWB) is a prestigious provincial symphonic wind orchestra made up of 50 talented young music students between the ages of 13 and 26. These young musicians of diverse cultural backgrounds attend high schools and tertiary institutions throughout KwaZulu-Natal.
The band is based in Durban and its mission is to be a leading symphonic wind orchestra, producing excellent music for a wide variety of audiences. It is considered one of South African’s finest youth wind bands. The band aims to raise public awareness and interest in music, and performs a wide range of music from classical, modern, jazz, swing and African township music. It performs at various venues and functions, from school concerts to graduation ceremonies, conferences and other prestigious events. In 2009, KZNYWB won first prize in the prestigious music competition and youth music festival in Vienna.
The lunch-hour concert takes place on September 5 at 12h15 at the Jubilee Hall (OSCA) - Princess Alice Avenue. Entrance is free. More information on 031 260 3353.
