Money Maker opens at the Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre on September 23.
This gripping story looks at the realities of socio-economic consequences of migration. This production takes audiences through a world of sex workers and what they go through in everyday life.
It explores a story of a mother who left a rural Mpumalanga to look for greener pastures in the city of gold, Johannesburg. She finds neither the easiest nor the worst of conditions by finally settling for prostitution where she survives by renting the space for the young ones. She recalls how swift and easy her transition was, but acknowledges making the decision had been difficult. However, putting it into practice was almost ludicrously simple.
Presented by KCAP and eThekwini Municipality, Moneymaker is written and directed by Jullian Seleke Mokoto. The show is fresh from the 2011 Grahamstown Arts Festival where it performed to full houses. The cast includes Linda Sebezo; Dallas Kunene; Tery Luboya-Muanza; Dikeledi Modubu; Malindi, and Crystal.
Moneymaker runs at the Ekhaya Multi Arts Centre from September 29 until October 2. More information from Phindile on 031 504 6970 or email biencagwala@gmail.com
