(The stunning Enchanted Snow Forest design by Eamon D’ Arcy)

The international ice dance sensation, The Imperial Ice Stars, are currently in rehearsal in Moscow for the upcoming World Premier of The Nutcracker on Ice at the Teatro at Montecasino.

Acclaimed Artistic Director, Tony Mercer – the world’s leading creator of contemporary theatre-on-ice – has once again teamed up with four-time figure skating World Champion and dual Olympic gold medallist Evgeny Platov to create choreography that further raises the bar. The show promises ever more breathtaking high-speed leaps and throws with awe-inspiring acrobatics coupled with the most graceful and sublime dancing.

The scenery, props and special effects that South African audiences will see form one of the most expensive stage sets ever created for a theatrical ice show anywhere in the world! The set has been designed by Eamon D’Arcy, one of Australia’s leading scenic designers, who has worked with the Imperial Ice Stars over the past decade - Nutcracker on Ice, Swan Lake on Ice and Cinderella on Ice.

He was the Acting Head of Design for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and the Concept Designer for the Cisco Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai. His latest theatre project in Australia Hairspray has been nominated for two design awards. He holds a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Sydney, and has been awarded a Centennial Medal by the Australian Government for his services to design.

To Tchaikovsky’s memorable score, the 25-strong cast of world, European and national championship skaters will astound and mesmerise South African audiences with their adrenaline-rich, dramatic performance, in the intimate setting of a frozen theatre stage! Fiona Kirk, from Cape Town, will star as the aerial gymnast.

Pieter Toerien presents The Nutcracker on Ice at the Teatro at Montecasino from December 8 to January 15. Booking is at Computicket/ For more information, visit
