Tonight (October 17) at the Red Door in Pietermaritzburg will be a good time for young people to take a much needed break from the rigours of studying for a few hours to enjoy some innovative new music. Two relative newcomers to the local music scene promise to feed the soul with refreshing new sounds.
Molly and I is a two-piece folk band from Pietermaritzburg consisting of Brett Jones and Ross A' Bear who both sing and play various instruments. Influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Laura Marling, Jon Foreman and The Tallest Man on Earth, they have mostly played gigs around Durban and also appeared at the Arisefest music festival last year.
Also appearing on the programme – and for the first time in Pietermaritzburg – will be Thomas Krane, an alternative indie group from Durban, who will challenge patrons' audial complacency and delight and surprise with their original musical versatility.
The home of the Maritzburg Musicians Club, The Red Door is situated in Quarry Rd, off Victoria Road, in Pietermaritzburg. Car guards on duty. More information from Roger O’Neill on 083 230 6562.
