ROCK LEGENDS

Night of great entertainment. (Review by Rosanne Hurly-Coyne)

The cast of Rock Legends currently playing over the weekend at Stirling Theatre, present a night of great entertainment for all future rockers, wanna-be rockers and old rockers.

Bringing together the music of some of the Rock Legends of 60's and 70's, the legacy of rock comes alive. The show is written and devised by Steve Gavin, and music direction is by Kevin Black. The cast include: Donovon Torr on lead guitar/vocals, Pete Bosse on bass, Greg Brooks on drums, Kevin Black on keyboard, Sherma Black on keyboard / vocals and Steve Gavin on guitar / vocals.

Presenting music by Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Cream, Satana, Jethro Tull, The Doobie Brothers, Bad Company and Black Sabbath, there was certainly enough fuel for a combination of nostalgia, enjoyment and debate.

Beginning the show with all-time favourites of Pink Floyd went down well with the audience, and particularly with our table of old rockers. Numbers like: Time, Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb and Brick in the wall were also appreciated, and it was a great start to the show.

Going on to Deep Purple numbers like When a Blind Man Cries and Smoke on the water; the keyboard work was excellent. A highlight was Paranoid by Black Sabbath. The Ozzie Osborne wig and glasses worn by the lead singer added another element to the show.

While there was not a lot of audience interaction in this show, I did enjoy the background video presentation which was both interesting and informative. We are so accustomed to audience participation that we almost expect it. This sparked some debate at our tables with some pointing out that many of the bands were not big on this when they first played. Pink Floyd, in fact, were never big on audience interaction. Bands like Led Zeppelin were not included which was a little disappointing. However, we all thoroughly enjoyed the show.
