SOLAH SHRINGAR

(Praksha Karshan, Aarthie Algoo, Shamista Rooplal, Shikara Somai and Harishka Maharaj)

Join the Kala Darshan institute of classical music and dance as it presents its latest offering, taking audiences on an intriguing journey through the eternal rhythms of Kathak with Solah Shringar, a Kathak recital by senior students of Guru Shri Manesh Maharaj.

Solah Shringar, the 16 steps of adorning a Hindu bride, manifests through Shuddha Nritta or pure dance in Kathak. Employing the 16 beat time cycle, Teentaal, the dancers present the Taal as a canvas on which various Bandishes from the Lucknow, Jaipur and Banaras Gharanas adorn the Taal. Darting glances, graceful hands, evocative expression, lightening pirouettes and complex footwork embellish each composition, creating a vision of splendour.

Live music accompaniment will be provided by students of Kala Darshan: Ketan Surjuprosad (Tabla); Seendira Maharaj & Reshma Raghunath (Vocal); Vimal Singh (Sitar/Harmonium), and Manesh Maharaj (Vocal/Padhant).

Dancers include Aarthie Algoo; Praksha Karshan; Shikara Somai; Harishka Maharaj and Shamista Rooplal.

Solah Shringar promises to captivate and enthral a diverse audience with its rich music score and vibrant choreography. It will take place on December 10 at 19h00 at the Rajput Hall (Chatsworth). Tickets R40 at the door prior to the performance. More information on 082 422 6865.
