Durban music lovers are abuzz with excitement in anticipation of hearing the stellar line-up of luminaries who will perform in The Playhouse Company’s A Tribute to Jazz Greats concert this Sunday.
Starring all-time master of the genre, the world renowned Hugh Masekela, as its headline act with Durban’s popular jazz personalities Theo Bophela, Jerry Kunene and the all-star Nqwelo Afrika Jazz Band, and South Africa’s new-generation jazz diva Siphokazi adding her own special lustre to the line-up, A Tribute to the Jazz Greats will also include the full KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, with the Playhouse Tap Dancers swinging into action and bringing a lively physical element of rhythm and movement to the afternoon’s entertainment.
“I am thrilled to be returning to Durban with my band this weekend, particularly as we had such a great time during our last appearance in the city over the past festive season,” says multi-award-winning Masekela, South Africa’s trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornet player, composer and singer extraordinaire, who is an international legend in his own lifetime.
