Friends of Music will host a recital by the Japs Duo on January 31.
From Matsue, Yasutaka Hemmi is one of the most dynamic and active violinists for contemporary music in Japan. Takayo Matsumura, from Osaka, is a freelance harpist and her activities incorporate solo, chamber ensemble and orchestral performances. She has expanded the repertoire of harp music.
Their programme will include Jules Massenet’s Meditation from Thaïs; Camille Saint-Saëns’ Fantaisie for violin and harp Op 124; Michael Blake’s Leaf Carrying Song for violin & harp and Toshio Hosokawa’s falling Cherry Blossoms harp solo.
Also on the programme are Miminashi Hoichi Fantasy by Yasutaka Hemmi; Princess Mononoke by Jo Hisaishi; Liebesfreud; Liebesleid by Fritz Kreisler and Csárdás by Vittorio Monti.
The Japs Duo recital will take place on January 31 at 19h45 at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 Old Fort Road (K.E. Masinga Road), Durban. Tickets R70 (R60 FOM members and R20 Orchestral & Students) booked through Computicket. There is safe parking.
