June Gugulethu Ngonyama (Gugu), a stalwart of the Playhouse staff for many years, died on February 1 from a heart attack. She was 55.
Gugu obtained her Junior Certificate in 1974 and went on to obtain her National Certificate as a Receptionist. She obtained various other certificates including one in Adult Education Communication-Level 5. She commenced work in 1980 with Steiner Services and has held various part time jobs, primarily that of receptionist. She started part time work at The Playhouse Company in July 2004 and has worked in various posts being that of usher, box office operator and switchboard operator.
She lived in Lamontville, as a widow and has four children.
Nonhlanhla Siphesihle Nkosi, Marketing Manager of The Playhouse Company, pens this tribute to her: “Gugu is remembered by all at The Playhouse for her friendly disposition, her devotion to her job and simply for the fact that she was just a wonderful personality. I have spoken to people today who, despite not knowing her by name, can remember the friendly face (always with a smile) that was there to assist them with the purchase of their tickets at box office.
Her passing has been a shock to everyone and she is remembered with fondness. RIP Gugu”
