KicksArt, Durban’s top theatre company, will hold open auditions for this year’s spectacular festive season production, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
The producers are casting for five men and five women to form the busy Ensemble, and for one boy aged between 8 and 12 years to play Chip, the enchanted tea cup.
Actors in the Ensemble need to be aged 18-50 years, and be excellent singers, able to dance and act to a high level.
Auditions will take place on February 25 in room M1 at the Playhouse’s Mayville Complex, Ramsay Rd.
Auditions for Ensemble will be from 10h00 to 13h00 with no reservation of audition time. All applicants should arrive at 09h30 and put their names on a list at the door. Applicants will first attend a group dance audition and then those who get through this round, will be asked to sing. Auditionees should take a song that shows vocal range, along with sheet music or backing track. Wear appropriate clothing for dance.
Auditions for Chip (the boys) will be between 14h30 and 16h30. No reservation of an audition time is necessary, but all applicants should arrive at 14h00, and put their names on a list at the door. Bring a short song with sheet music or backing track. If applicants get through the singing audition, they will be required to stay and attend an acting audition. Bring a memorised poem or short piece of prose. The audition lists will close at 14h45.
The show will rehearse from October 29, afternoons and evenings, until it opens on November 27. Performances will be Tuesdays to Sundays at 14h30 and Fridays and Saturdays at 19h00. There are four 11h00 schools performances: November 27, 28, 29 and December 6.
Beauty and the Beast is scheduled to run from November 27 to January 6, 2013, at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.
