The celebrated brilliant young Czech pianist Libor Novacek will appear in a recital for Friends of Music on March 20.
Recognised especially for his interpretations of Liszt, Brahms and Janacek, Novacek’s playing has been compared with that of the great masters such as Brendel, Kempff and Arrau. His programme for Friends of Music will include Beethoven’s Sonata in C op 2, no. 3, Brahms’ 7 Fantasies op.116, Janacek’s On the overgrown path and Liszt’s Sonata in B minor.
Novacek’s Durban appearance forms part of his second tour of South Africa, having first visited the country in 2008. His concerts have taken him to major festivals and venues worldwide, including the Wigmore Hall and the Barbican in London, also the Brighton, Three Choirs and Mostly Mozart Festivals.
He has played in the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, India, and most of the European Union. Leading orchestras that have partnered him number among others, the Royal Philharmonic, Prague Philharmonia, the Hamburg Symphony, Brighton Philharmonic, English Sinfonia, the European Union Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also recorded for Czech Radio and BBC Radio 3.
Novacek released two CDs of Liszt in 2006 to outstanding reviews in the classical music press. His third recording of music, by Brahms was selected as the BBC Magazine’s Instrumental Choice in August 2008. Libor’s subsequent CD, again featuring works by Liszt received the greatest critical acclaim, including five stars in The Guardian.
