BRUTAL TUNES

(Andrew Warburton, Lisa Bobbert and Anthony Stonier)

One of the most successful productions to have played Durban’s supper theatre circuit is the multi award-winning music revue Brutal Tunes.

Returning by overwhelming public demand after numerous repeat seasons, this “most macabre musical mixture of madness, murder and mirth” plays the Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest for a week from April 10.

Produced by Sue Clarence Promotions and directed by Caroline Smart, the show sees much-loved Durban performers Lisa Bobbert and Anthony Stonier upstaged by internationally-acclaimed concert pianist, Andrew Warburton.

Warburton is an accomplished classical musician and more than capable of up-staging these two high energy performers. After all, he has far more glamorous costumes! His accompaniment includes an entire brutal concerto, despite the concerted attempts of the performers to derail him and, despite himself, adding enormously to the brutal atmosphere!

So much of life is brutal: love, lost love, marriage, the games society plays, parties, liaisons, families, the horrors adults put their children through - after all, which child wants a mother whose face is lifted from its proper place … no aspect of life is left unscathed in this brutal take on life.

Bristling with sharp wit and comedy and overflowing with musical ability, audiences should grab the opportunity to enjoy such talent.

Brutal Tunes was specifically designed to highlight the talents and excellent working rapport of this trio who perform music by Sondheim, Noel Coward, Tom Lehrer - all masters of the brutal, witty lyric ... and, as Stonier says in the opening few moments, there are more lyrics than you can possibly imagine!

Brutal Tunes runs at the Heritage Theatre in Hillcrest from April 10 to 15. Tickets include an excellent two-course meal. Bookings on 031 765 4197.
