Forming part of the Playhouse Company’s 2012 Community Arts Festival is Out Cries the Poor Heart which appears in Programme 1.
Written and directed by Jabulani ‘Tamraaf’ Matiwane, Out Cries The Poor Heart is a story of a woman in depression after having had a miscarriage. Fighting her trauma, she finds herself in a spiritual realm. Dismayed and angered by her husband’s irresponsibility, she neglects him as he tries to comfort her, and reveals her emotional scars.
The themes of this dance piece are familiar to all. Yet the intensity and articulation of dance, drama and music is uniquely captured by the performers, adding a metaphysical and instructive tone to the work. It is performed by Nhlanhla Zondi, Siyanda Duma, Golden Kalala, Mandisa Ndlovu, Dumalile Mkhwanyazi and Khumbulani Mkhize.
CAF Programme 1 will be performed on April 12 at 18h00, April 13 at 11h00 (schools) and April 14 at 14h00. Admission is free to all CAF performances at The Playhouse.
