RAS TONY & MAPUTO LAND

Veteran reggae singer Ras Tony is celebrating 30 years in the music industry with a tour that will please his fans in Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa.

Hailing from Maputo, Mozambique, Ras Tony’s unique roots reggae sound is influenced by Marrabenta, a dance music developed in Maputo in the 1930s and 1940s that merges Mozambican traditional music, Portuguese folk music and Western pop music. Accompanied by Xitende, a 10 piece band, Ras Tony sings in Portuguese, Shangaan and English.

Following a long stay in Portugal, England and Swaziland, where Ras Tony shared the stage with international and local music legends such as UB-40, Jimmy Cliff, Rita Marley, The Pretenders, Brenda Fasie, Lucky Dube and Sipho Mabuse; Ras Tony returned to Mozambique in 2001 and formed the afro-reggae group Ras Tony & Maputo Land.

Following the success of his first CD recorded with Maputo Land in 2006 entitled Summer Holiday, Ras Tony is currently recording his second album.

He will appear at the Rainbow Restaurant on April 27 at 14h00 (doors open at 13h00). Tickets R20 presale, R40 at the door. The Rainbow Restaurant Estd 1981 is situated at 23 Stanfield Lane, Pinetown.
