Well-known Durban sculptor Hannah Lurie celebrates the arrival in 1860 of the Indian indentured labourers to South Africa in two bronze sculptures.
These sculptures have never been displayed before and form part of an exhibition she is currently presenting at the Artisan Art Gallery.
In the early days of her marriage, she and her husband lived in the Glenashley Canefields and this formed the foundation of her research into the farming of cane and the labourers themselves.
The exhibition continues until the middle of May. Artisan Contemporary Gallery is situated at 344 Florida Road. More information on 031 312 4364 or 083 301 5747, email: info@artisan.co.za or visit www.artisan.co.za
