The KZN Youth Orchestra will perform at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre on May 20 as part of the 2012 National Creative Arts Youth Festival.
Initiated by Professor Elizabeth Sneddon and now in its 23rd year, the festival celebrates the achievements of the youth of South Africa. It is directed at young, predominantly school-going people, and has achieved remarkable success in building a broad multi-cultural base and participation. The festival makes a major contribution in building a united nation based on values that serve the interest of the community in the new South Africa.
The Festival is unique in South Africa in that it is the only one promoting the visual and performing arts as an essential part of every young person’s education and it is also a celebration of the arts, embracing wide and varying forms of tribal traditions, heritages and cultures.
The KZN Youth Orchestra concert, Take Note sees the musicians performing under the batons of Cathy Peacock and Lindsay Johnston in a varied programme of music. This will include both classical works (Grieg, Saint-Saëns, Bizet and Prokofiev) and popular pieces such as New York, New York and Fiesta Tropicale. The Durban Girls' College Choir, conducted by Ronél Perks, will open the concert.
The concert takes place at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre on May 20 at 14h30. Tickets R50 (R30 children and pensioners, R25 block bookings for 10 or more). Tickets at Computicket and at the door. There is plenty of safe parking. More information on 071 948 5763 or email : admin@kznyo.co.za
