Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau brings South African audiences another thought-provoking, uplifting and awe-inspiring film with Sebastian Grobler’s big screen directorial debut, Lessons of a Dream
Follow the story of a young teacher, Konrad Koch played by Daniel Bruehl of Inglorious Bastards fame. Based on a true story, Lessons of a Dream sees Koch recruited to teach at a strictly-run German school for boys. With a completely different approach in his teaching methods, Koch manages to start a ‘learning’ revolution - not without hefty opposition, of course!
The passionate young Koch changes the face of teaching in Germany and alters the mindset of his pupils and peers alike. That being said, he is confronted with daily challenges and opposition from parents, dignitaries and pupils. Not only does he have to teach English – a subject despised at the German Secondary School - he also chooses to use an unconventional method using Football as a teaching tool when the traditional and generally accepted teaching methodology doesn’t work.
Just released exclusively at Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau Theatres, Lessons of a Dream is an impactful tale that sees language and life skills learnt through the ‘art’ of Football. Local art film lovers will be truly inspired by this teacher’s passion for his subject as well as his students.
