In response to artists’ requests, the deadline for submission to The Lovell Gallery Artists Competition 2012 has been extended. Entries will now be accepted until May 18. However, winners will still be announced by May 31 as previously advertised.
“If you’re wondering how to get noticed in the art world, or need a little help with building your career, then this competition can help you,” says the publicity material. “Collectors take note of artists who win juried competitions because it indicates a vote of confidence in their work by a panel from the art world. And the more you show your work in reputable galleries, the better. A solo show is the ultimate boost.”
The Lovell Gallery Artists Competition identifies new collectable artists. The competition allows applications in any visual arts medium and is open to any artist with a portfolio of at least five original artworks of a cohesive theme. Group and solo show winners will be provided with all the help and guidance they need to develop their art careers, including exhibiting, marketing, selling, pricing, production, and creating their story.
The jury, selected to provide a broad spectrum of views from the art world, includes sculptor and mosaic artist Jill Gordon-Turner; renowned investment art collector Peter Badenhorst, and gallerist and marketing strategy consultancy MD Tamzin Lovell Miller. They will be looking for art that is of excellent technical quality, cohesive as a body of work in theme, idea or style, and backed up by a clear artist’s statement.
The Winners Group Exhibition runs at the Lovell Gallery in Cape Town from July 17 until August 11. More information from Brendon van Kraayenburg (Gallery Manager) on 021 820 5505, email: info@lovellgallery.co.za or visit www.lovellgallery.co.za
