LUCAS SENYATSO FOR UKZN

The Centre for Jazz and Popular will present, well-loved bassist Lucas Senyatso on May 2 at the UKZN campus venue.

Lucas Senyatso’s professional career started in 1990, when he joined a band from his hometown, Shine in Mafikeng, North West province. His career blossomed when he joined the legendary Hugh Masekela band in 1998 and toured the USA and Europe with them.

In 2006, Lucas received two SAMA nominations for his debut album All of Me. The single Baby you was number 1 on Kaya fm’s top 30 for over two months.

In 2007, he recorded on Japanese singer Keiko Matsui's Moyo project and toured Japan with it her. Other artists he has worked with include Sibongile Khumalo, Themba Mkhize, Gloria Bosman, Judith Sephuma, Ringo Madlingozi and Patty Austin (USA).

Lucas will be joined by Prince Bulo on second bass, Sibusiso Mashiloane on keyboard and Paki Peloeole on drums.

The performance takes place at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone on the Howard College campus of the University of KwaZulu-Natal on May 2 at 18h00 (doors opens at 17h30).
