The Centre for Jazz & Popular Music (UKZN) is proud to present one of Gauteng’s top vocalists Zarcia Zacheus on May 9.
A talented musician/ songwriter, she enjoys teaching (voice and theory), and does sound design for various animation and film projects. She has had vast experiences in the gospel and Jazz band circuit and has recorded and / or performed with Joyous Celebration, Pastor Benjamin Dube, Dave Koz, Feya Faku and Andile Yenana, amongst others. Her charisma and infectious charm make her a well-rounded performer.
Her television appearances include Weekend Live on SABC2, YoTV’s Blue Couch and One Gospel. In 2009, she won 2nd place in the MTN City Festival Awards in the Music category. In 2010 she won the Elizabeth Connell vocal prize in 2010 and last year she was one of six finalists in the SAMRO 2011 Overseas Scholarship Competition.
Zacheus has completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the University of Witwatersrand, where she studied with Jonathan Crossley, Edith Klug and Dr. Carlo Mombelli majoring in Jazz Composition and Performance. She is currently completing her Masters in Interactive Media at Wits University and is a production co-ordinator at Jacaranda- fm.
Zarcia will be joined by Prince Bulo on bass, Sibusiso Mashiloane on piano, and Paki Peloeole on drums. The music starts on May 9 at 18h00 (doors open at 17h30) at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal.
