(Arjan Tien)
The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra’s next concert in the World Symphony Series Winter Season 2012 features three award-winning local choirs, as well as four superb South African vocalists.
Arjan Tien conducts Mozart’s spectacular Requiem in D Minor which will be performed by the combined forces of the Clermont Community Choir, undefeated in the standard category at the Old Mutual National Choir Festival; the Durban Symphonic Choir, which was formed in 1966 by Heather Brandon at the request of the Durban City Council, and Sounds of Joy who hold the third position in the Department of Arts and Culture Competition.
Appearing in Requiem will be Soprano Kelebogile Boikanyo, a full time associate artist with Opera Africa, Johannesburg, who is also the Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year for music. She will perform alongside Veramarie Meyer (alto); Melusi Kubheka (baritone) and Lionel Mkhwanazi (tenor).
Performing another Mozart work, the KZNPO features violinist Avigail Bushakevitz as the soloist in the composer’s Violin Concerto No. 4
